Artist and Pioneer Works visual arts alum, Jonathan Ojekunle comes to Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition with a dynamic art workshop inspired by BWAC's current exhibitions, Elements of Movement, and AMPED: The Art of Rock and Roll.
In this high-energy workshop, participants will explore rhythm, vibration, and spontaneous mark-making by combining music, movement, and mixed media. Inspired by the spirit of rock and roll, this session invites participants to let sound and rhythm guide their hands as they create expressive abstract pieces on canvas using watercolors, water brushes, and thread, artists will respond to the physical vibrations of music -- specifically bass heavy rock tracks -- by splashing diluted color onto canvas in time with the beat.
As music pulses through the space and participants tap, beat, or even dance along, the pigments will move, merge, and spread organically across the surface.
Once the initial layer is dry, participants will take a closer look at the unexpected shapes, splashes, and patterns that formed from the movement. Using thread and additional detailing tools, they will highlight, outline, or emphasize the forms they see, transforming accidental marks into intentional images or abstract compositions.
This workshop blends spontaneity and intention, sound and sight, and invites each participant to find personal meaning in chaos.
