I think of these less as dolls than as bodies carried over from different attachments and acts: a replica of a girl who lost her mother in COVID, my seventy-year-old Dutch neighbor whom I conspired against, a doll borrowed from the school painting prop room and never returned, and a fake antique Kewpie doll. Gathered together in a crate, they become a small, unstable community held between care, theft, memory, and invention.
